17K Mile, 2 owner, 1987 Mustang LX Convertible.
In 1987, at 60 years old, the original owner went down to Central Ford/Lincoln/Mercury in Plainfield, CT and purchased this Bright Red 4 cyl. LX convertible. She drove it only in the sunny weather, although reports are that if it was nice out, she drove it in the winter too but not often.
Unfortunately, in 1991, both her mental and physical health were declining and she couldn't drive the car any longer... It was parked in her garage and there it sat. The lady is still alive today but has been in a nursing home for the last 20+ years. Several months ago, the house was getting prepared for sale and the Mustang was moved outside. The current owner saw the car sitting outside and asked about it. He was doing some of the work on the house. He worked out a deal to take the car as partial payment for his work. The car was dirty from sitting untouched for nearly 30 years and didn't start or run, but the engine did turn freely.
He dragged the car back to his garage and dove into getting the car running and cleaned up, figuring his wife might like to drive her as a summer car... She didn't.. so it is now for sale.
He replaced the gas tank, sending unit, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, injectors, spark plugs and wires, air filter, muffler (it was plugged with a mouse nest) and rear wheel cylinders. He also changed out the fluids.
Other than those items, this car is as original as she was when she rolled into the garage 29 years ago... Even the Firestone tires are original; 33 years old and only have 17,000 miles on them. (However, they should be replaced for safe driving)
The interior is red vinyl and is in mint condition. The carpets show no wear, nor do the pedals.
All lights work, the power top works, as do the power mirrors and door locks. The AC works and will get a recharge before sale, as does the heat. Power brakes (Discs F, Drums R), Power rack and pinion steering, Cruise control and multi-speed intermittent wipers (which still have the original blades) finish out the option list, along with the rear luggage rack.
As mentioned, the engine is the 92 HP, fuel injected 4 cylinder backed by a three speed automatic transmission. She runs and drives great.
There are a couple of very unfortunate small scratches in the paint due to sitting in a garage for 29 years, people and things moving past it and around it.
Aside from some negligent surface rust on the undercarriage, this car is rust/rot free.
This car is now totally ready to enjoy and is a time capsule on wheels.
Although not a powerhouse V8, there are VERY few 87 Mustang convertibles rolling out there with less than 20,000 miles. At least the 4 cylinder will return good gas mileage for cruising along the shoreline in the summer.
Due to the super low miles and the near mint condition of the car, asking price is $6500.
Any questions, to schedule a time to see her in person or to make an offer, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for the interest.
